Three different ways of saying the same thing: walking worthy of God, doing His will for you, fully pleasing Him. What are these things?:
- Believing the gospel alone for salvation: that Christ died to pay for all your sins, was buried and rose again the third day – 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
- Growing in godliness:
- The character of Christ: walking in love, peace, joy, patience, long suffering, kindness, gentleness, self control, goodness, faithfulness, selflessness, forgiving, humility, not boasting or proud, not envying, not angering, rejoicing in good, not rejoicing in bad, thinking no evil, bearing with others, believing others.
- The conduct of Christ: abstaining from all sin (not for salvation, but because it brings true joy and peace in one’s life).
- Doing good works.
- Using your ministry gifts (whichever you have) to edify others:
- Prophesying: bringing new revelation to the body of Christ.
- Evangelizing: spreading the gospel to the lost.
- Preaching and teaching fellow believers.
- Church administrations.
- Helping the needy physically and financially.
- Working quietly. We work:
- Patiently.
- Gently.
- Slowly, taking our time, not rushing, as to not bring stress, anxiety and nervousness upon ourselves.
- Methodically.
- Not forcing things.
- Doing a perfect job at whatever we set out to do, as doing it for the Lord.
- Working hard as if for the Lord and letting things take as long as they need to take. Hard work is quality work, not fast work.
- Leading a quiet and peaceable life.
- Learning the knowledge and wisdom of God found throughout scripture.
- Praying always for yourself and others, with giving thanks.
- Being content with what you have.
- Respecting others, especially those in authority.
- Grow in discernment between right and wrong morally, and in the ways of God vs the ways of the world.
To do these things, you must commit them to memory over time and exercise yourself daily in them. It’s a lifelong process of growth. The goal, as Paul states in Philippians 3, is to become a perfect man in the ways of Christ (the above things). Run the race as to win the prize (work hard at these things!). Start by memorizing the character of God in point number 2. The way to view this note is: point number one is first and foremost – the only requirement for salvation – and all the rest of the points are equal and in no particular order, and are not salvation issues.
